First Lady Calls For Unity

MIAMI (AllPolitics, April 23) -- First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton told a 2,000-strong, standing-room-only women's rally here Monday that in the contest between her husband and Sen. Robert Dole (R-Kan), "we now know so much is at stake that we must redouble our efforts."

Speaking to the Women's Leadership Forum Network '96, Mrs. Clinton said "the reason you are here is the reason I am here." She pointed to the family leave legislation and the Brady handgun law as important achievements of Bill Clinton's first term.

She called for unity. "We each have an opportunity now to reach across many of those divides that separate us, to reach out hands and say 'We are all in this together.'"
